The period “.” is used to add two strings together, or more technically, the period is the concatenation operator < for strings. Example:
Code:

$a = "Hello ";
 echo $b = $a . "World!"."
"; // now $b contains "Hello World!" $a = "Hello "; echo $a .= "World!"; // now $a contains "Hello World!"

Output:

Hello World!
Hello World!
